Sports - A Life of Changing Event

How many in the world would believe that high school had indeed made an impact in their lives?  For me, I believe that it does.

TTSS has always been encouraging students to excel in many directions of interests, be it academics, arts or sports. As for me, sports have always been my forte ever since I laid my time and effort in founding the interest in track and field. Looking back, if it wasn’t for sports, I would not be who I am today. I was never a confident person, but sports changed me to becoming a better person.

Sports are all about the perseverance to submit our time and effort to pour out sweat in continuously and repetitiously doing and overcoming the same training routine on weekly, monthly and even annual basis to elevate to higher performance and results, yet believing that our coach will bring us further than what we did yesterday. A lot of times, the giving up mentality would stop me from thriving towards my goal, and some days where I just wanted to survive training and called it a day. The training that everyone goes through would be churning and improving the technical skills, conditioning of the body which every human being shares the same physiology aspect. So then, what would be the definition between success and failure on any given day? Strong mind nurtured through trainings and shaped up during competitions , is the answer.

An athlete needs a constant and maximum concentration during training in order to build and execute the skills, maintaining a positive attitude regardless any forms of obstacles encountered  especially tiredness, which develops self-management skills to manage and overcome anxiety, emotions and negativities effectively and efficiently as well as  developing and sustaining a high level of self-motivation skill out of it. Perhaps outsiders would think all these skills are just as easy as ABC, but when you put these skills into life-perspective, is it not the same? How often do we need motivations from family, friends and ourselves to succeed in our studies or work? The anxiety and stress that daily life has been giving, we could not just shove it to one side and let it slowly build up to becoming a huge emotion burden which in the beginning could be dealt with least effort and positively.

Often, people make a statement that marathon runners have a tendency to persist in any circumstances in life, which is true. It’s because of their personal nature in sports that is reflecting through their normal life. Athletes are the same as any man on Earth, no one could say that an athlete makes it easy to live life. It’s all about the perspective in life and ways or manners to execute one’s life to be. In this era that we live in, people often talk about the “Law of Attraction”, we attract whatever we think about, good or bad. In another context, it is the same as being grateful in our daily  life even towards the insignificant and tiniest events of life.

With what I learnt in sports, be it physically or mentally, it taught me so much about life. All these happened because of the opportunity I had back in high school. And till to date, I am still constantly involving in sports just that it no longer revolves around plainly running, whereas the career path, I had just graduated and entering my 5th month of work as a Physiotherapist. I could not had finished the hardcore course load in Hong Kong if I had not persisted till the end and of course having sports in my life made it easier to overcome the stresses.
